A Fine Early Kurosawa Film

Kurosawa's strong visual story-telling is on early display in this detective thriller. The film's more procedural elements tend to drag, at times, as Kurosawa hasn't quite settled into his usual masterful storytelling, but there are some shots and moments that are so dynamic they stand out. It's an interesting, though sometimes uneven film, with a strong moral message and great character acting from its cast.
