Preachy and Dull

There are some interesting threads that are, sadly, very wasted in this dull and preachy thriller. Andy Garcia and Forest Whitaker are masterful and, as always, remain committed to their roles, even when the script doesn't give them much to work with. The script itself is pretty heavy-handed and expositional at times, and cliche and sappy at others. The film's subject - worldwide water wars - is important, socially, but the filmmakers choose to preach at their audience, rather than introducing the themes more organically. The climax, especially, is very drawn out and over-the-top, in terms of driving home a message that has been made abundantly clear throughout the film.
