I am NOT going to join the intellectual bandwagon. I like low-key films but this is as slow and uninvolving as watching paint dry. It's frustratingly cold to the point where I ended up looking at the clock every ten minutes, counting down to when the torture will be over. I find it astounding that film critics treat this movie as if it's sacred, comparing it to Alfred Hitchcock's work. Outrageous! If the film is a prank itself, like what the characters were dealing with throughout the film, I don't find it amusing... especially with a running time of two hours. I wouldn't even say that this film is daring or wildly experimental. It's just plain junk and deserves to be forgotten. I know that the title means "hidden" and that there are "hidden" things throughout this movie. But there's a difference between looking for "hidden" meanings in an involving film and looking for "hidden" meanings in a pretentious film. This is the latter. I rarely say this about any "bad" movie: I want my two hours back!
