Masterfully Done Gritty Drama

This film is extremely multi-layered. Just when you think you've got a character all figured out, the movie pulls a one-two punch that never lets up. I appreciated the gritty tone because it made it all that more personal. I must commend the three leading actors: Sean Penn, Kevin Bacon, and Tim Robbins. They successfully provided the audience characters that you can love and dislike at the same time. Even though tragedies happen in their lives, they never seem to learn from it nor do they try to atone for their mistakes. There are a lot of people like that which makes this film close to real life. I must also give kudos to Thomas Guiry for giving life to a complex character that you can't help but love. This film is dark and deeply engaging. It's definately another hit from the great Clint Eastwood.
