Dog Soldiers

Wishy-Washy at Best

Hmm, this seems to be a cult favourite of horror fans. In the end, I didn't know exactly how to feel about it. I didn't know if the filmmakers wanted the audience to take the film seriously or lightly because I do see some homage to the 70's and 80's horror flicks ("An American Werewolf in London," anyone?). I did enjoy some scenes when they were in the house as they try to escape and/or kill the werewolves. But, at the same time, I felt like the entire movie dragged on like there's no tomorrow. The whole military set-up seems all too forced so that the characters will have weapons they can use to fight back. I wondered a couple of times if the picture would've been better if they did not have any guns. Because once characters have guns, all they can do is shoot until they run out of bullets. It gets tiresome fast. Still, there were some laugh-out-loud moments because some kills and dialogues are too ridiculous (yeah, it's campy but sometimes that's fun). But I can't quite recommend it to my friends who are casual filmgoers. I'm afraid they'll just roll their eyes the entire time.
