Likeable But Widely Uneven

I was debating whether to give this a three stars out of four because I really liked a lot of the elements that worked with this movie. For instance, I did buy who the characters were, where they lived, the time period, what they love doing, and the changes they went through after skateboarding went mainstream. Plus, I thought Heath Ledger was so interesting in this film. He made me laugh because of the way he talked and his mannerisms. I liked all that... but I can't quite give it another star because I feel like this film is widely uneven. The grittiness that I admired during the first hour quickly dissipated half-way through it. The skateboarding stunts made me try to not look away from the screen but that, too, got uninteresting as it went along. It's uncommon for me to get movies that I like and not like at the same time. Unfortunately, this is one of those films.
