A Superior Addition to LGBT Cinema

This is one of my favourite gay movies because it truly captured the alienation I felt in high school due to the close-minded bigots I wish I never met. I could easily relate to the character because he likes to write (although I did not take that path) and he has that I-don't-care-what-you-think attitude that's well beyond the confines of high school. This film does not have any graphic sex scenes, which I admire because 95% of gay and lesbian movies have to have at least one sex scene for them to remain interesting. Instead, this is all about emotions: the ups and downs of being in love/lust and how wanting to break free from a shell can blur the line between those two completely different issues. I must give kudos to Ben Silverstone and Brad Gorton for giving charming and naturalistic performances. Also, hats off to Charlotte Brittain as the classic faghag that made me laugh every time she's on screen. Although this was made about a decade ago, it's still very powerful because it's grounded in reality. I hope this film will be seen by those who are afraid to come out of the closet--to somehow be inspired to show their love to someone of the same sex and acquire the courage to accept themselves, while at the same time letting go of those who cannot accept them for who they are. I love everything about this movie!
