This one will probably stand at the plateau comic books movies try to reach. Robert Downey Jr. once again plays himself but he brings the charm and the funny you couldn't imagine anyone more suited for this role, to say that he nails it would be an injustice, he is Iron Man. The only doubt I had going in is the ability of Jon Favreau to direct a movie on this scale, and craft a solid action sequence. Alas I was proven wrong, you just have to be impressed with all this coming from a guy who never did this kind of movie before. His level of understanding of what makes action work and what doesn't is that of a veteran in the field. No small part of the success was the incredible and groundbreaking CGI, there wasn't an instant when I felt that I wasn't watching something real. With its perfect balance between action, characterization and a good story to boot it stands as the standard all movies of this type should strive to attain.
