Fifty Foot Charisma Overshadows Plot

*** This is not the same movie as 28 Days Later *** They both have zombies and the end of the world in common, set against an urban landscape, but that's about it. Each had very distinct tones, world views and viewer experience.
The rawness of 28 Days owes much to the viewer's inability to trust any character on screen: they might do just about anything to survive. They are unpredictable. The actors are unknowns.
Legend, however, is characterized by Will Smith's likableness. Perhaps one of the most charismatic actors alive, Smith is one of very few actors who can hold one's attention for two hours without looking like he's hogging the spotlight.
In the case of Legend, it isn't so much that Smith steals the show from what could be an incredible plot/scenario -- it's just that, when you have Smith, the script becomes much less important.
