THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE RECOBBLED CUT, NOT THE MIRAMAX VERSION
What can we say about The Thief and the Cobbler? The film has had a long and troubled history, this film was produced for over 30 years, the longest production for an animated film! Anyways, Richard Williams, (Famed for Who Framed Roger Rabbit) wanted The Thief and the Cobbler to be his masterpiece, which it sort of is in my opinion! The only cons I can think of for this film is that it STILL isn't finished, but that's just about it. There are many pros to this amazing movie. First of all, the story is good, and the characters are developed very well. In the Recobbled cut, Tak and the thief can't talk so you have to see their emotions and feelings just by watching their movements and some of their facial expressions. Second, the animation is completely stunning ESPECIALLY near the end. It's a shame Miramax had to butcher this classic, now we don't have the original classic on home video. For those of you who don't know what the recobbled cut is, it's what was supposed to be what the original Thief and the Cobbler was supposed to be, it features some unfinished animation and some original sketches for some missing scenes. You can find it on YouTube, type"thief and the cobbler recobbled cut". The Thief and the Cobbler is definitely one of the greatest animated films ever. If only there was a DVD version for the recobbled cut.
RECOBBLED CUT = HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
MIRAMAX VERSION = SKIP IT
