Cheesy and sentimental

A cheesy sentimental film, that I suppose works in a cheesy sentimental sort of way, I guess. If you like a film like that I suppose you would like it. A problem comes from the drama between the daughter and father which has a tacked on feel and it does not work. The aging works partially as does the married couples interaction, but anything involving the daughter does not work.
Oscar Win Best Actor Henry Fonda 3/5- Fonda gives a fine performance as Norman Thayer but not one of overt greatness. He is good enough and helps the film as much as he can. It is not his best work and it is not the best portrayal of an old man role like this but it is a good one.
