I like Robert Mitchum and Jean Simmons but the two of them are put in a very dull film noir. Neither actor distinguishes themselves well here, which is not surprising since Simmons was only did this film due to a contract. The story itself always has very little passion or intrigue and although it has a few twists and turns none of them make this particularly interesting viewing.
