I love movies about poor people. I love watching trashy people live normal lives and not complaining about it. Some call them rednecks, I call them entertainment. That being said, I had the pleasure recently to witness a rather unentertaining film called Winter's Bone.

This film is about a 17-year-old named Ree who is raising her two younger siblings while taking care of her cerebrally distant mother. She finds out that her drug-dealing father has gone missing and if he doesn't show up soon, the court will be forced to evict them from their home. She sets out to find him, despite many of her family members warning her against it.

Never have I been so invested in characters in a film while remaining completely and utterly bored out of my mind. Ree is a great character in that she has so much responsibility and doesn't really have any way to handle it but tries her hardest just the same. Her journey keeps her strong and courageous. I don't know what it is about the film though, because as much as I was interested in her and how she was going to solve all of her problems, I found it extremely difficult to sit through this film. The dialogue is great and the acting is exactly what you would expect from this sort of movie (and I mean that in a good way). The story is interesting and the characters are intriguing. I don't know what it is that makes the film so boring. I want to say it's the pacing but that really doesn't seem to be the problem as the film goes about fairly steadily.

This movie is only about an hour and a half too. I honestly do not know why I found it so boring. Again, Pretty much everything about it is good, but something in there just doesn't work. Maybe it's the fact that everybody looks so dreary throughout the film. I don't think I saw a single person in the entire movie smile once. I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm rambling but I really don't have a lot to say about it. I really hate that I found this movie so boring (have I used that word enough yet?) because I liked everything else so much.

Winter's Bone is…I don't even know what to say now. I want to suggest this film but I can't. I want to say it's bad but I liked way too much to say so. This is a terrible review. I'm sorry for wasting your time. Ugh, so boring.
