Often coined the USSR's answer to 2001, 'Solyaris' is undoubtedly a masterpiece. In the face of Kubrick's existential space opera, though, it simply is not as impressive a masterpiece. No matter, as 'Solyaris' is still beautifully shot, scored, and acted... and will leave you arguably just as unnerved as ol' Stanley's film.
