Howard Hawks' landmark gangster picture is an orgy of glamourous, pre-Hays code violence. It inevitably ditches the moral complexity of earlier crime films like 1927's Underworld due to tightening pressures from censors, but still displays a far more decadent streak than any of its Production Code-friendly successors would dare. Highly recommended viewing.
