The trouble with The Trouble with Being Born is not that the film is exploitative - its message is unmistakably one of harsh condemnation toward child abusers, and its execution bares no evidence of actual child exploitation - but rather that it is oh so very boring. The first 20 minutes work a treat for selling the Lolita Pinocchio nightmare that is being a pre-pubescent android stuck in a German pedophile's IKEA minimalist mansion. But once that idea is communicated, it is never really built on. About half way through you might think it will be, but you'll see the folly of your ways soon enough.
