The film appears to be marketed specifically as Roald Dahl's The Witches, which I presume is largely because the people who made this film wanted to shift all the blame onto a dead person.
Incidentally, congratulations to Anne Hathaway for winning the worst accent of the year competition, a close race with Kenneth Branagh's Tenet Russian accent in the mix, with her Scottish Transylvanian growl.
