Aussie Mockbuster

I feel the greatest compliment I could actually pay this film is that some of the fully CGI-rendered sequences do hold a candle to their more affluent inspirations and competitors. What I fear is that this compliment would be received as glowing praise by the movie's makers. This film is a failure of characterization, of comedy, and sadly sometimes of craft. All the computer generated content is fine by its own, but integrate it into a scene with living, breathing people and actual landscapes surrounding them and you have a GoFundMe film that couldn't even reach its bench mark.
I pine for a great Australian blockbuster, a genuine home grown affair that recalls the heights of the Mad Max movies without just being a style sycophant to them. Boy was this not that. Perhaps the third film can crack the formula. Indeed, perhaps I would be more forgiving of this one had I seen the first film. I am sure much progress has been made from 2018's Occupation to this follow-up, yet being one above the bottom of a very large class does not put you near the top.
