An exceedingly pleasant (if that is quite the right word for this story) surprise. Rather seamlessly transitions from grimy soap opera to grimy Fatal Attraction, the performances anchoring the melodrama and the escalating violence in a way that really cannot be understated. Stand out for me was Sam Parsonson. The film takes an enormous risk revealing so much of his character's psyche early on, but Parsonson is dynamic and committed enough to this character - which it must be said could have easily been a cringe-inducing stereotype - that it pays off. Coupled with solid direction and a good score, this is an excellent watch for the spooky season.
