Bring me the hammer, daddy.

It's nothing more than a highly stylized exercise in brutal horror, but what an exercise it is! With a maniacally brilliant performance by Robin McLeavy, The Loved Ones is unflinching in its graphic violence and pretty hard to watch at times, but it also has a pitch black sense of humor that sneaks up on you. It's also quite unpredictable, which is hard to find in horror cinema these days. Further proof that Australia is where some of the best horror flicks come from these days, it's just wicked, grotesque, and compulsively watchable. One of the best genre films to come out in a while, and especially one of, if not the best, of this year.
