The Dark Knight Rises somewhat

Epic, ambitious, and dark. Bloated, over-long, and messy. The Dark Knight Rises still succeeds on it's own terms by being a daring summer action flick. Coming from Christopher Nolan, however, the film is sophisticated and deeper than other comic-to-screen adaptations. Have no doubts, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman knocks the role out of the park. Not only does she absolutely kick ass, but she's also the shining beacon in the center of all the chaos, bringing much needed energy and levity in stark contrast to the films bleak nature. Tom Hardy (or my husband) once again completely inhabits his character, he's ruthless, brutal, calculating, and darkly humorous. Even if he doesn't match up to Ledger's immortal role as the Joker (and really who can?) he still gets the job done very well. The real star of the show is the brilliantly intense musical score by Hans Zimmer and striking cinematography by Wally Pfister. However, I still had a lot of issues that I can't really go into without spoiling, but the film is simply too long for it's own good, with certain sub plots and characters that could have been excised entirely (I'm looking at you Matthew Modine. Still it's worth a watch, even though I'm sure everyone here has seen it already. TDKR is a broken wlould be masterpiece, but it left me cold and just a tad underwhelmed. However, it has too much talent involved to dislike it. and it's a fitting conclusion to one of the better (if slightly overrated) franchises out there. (pg13- intense sequences of violence and action, some sexual content, and language)
