The picture is about two strangers who met on a train from Budapest. The American Jesse (Ethan Hawke) starts a conversation with the attractive French Celine (Julie Delpy) and decides to wander the streets of Vienna. The lovely pair passes by Wiener Riesenrad Ferris wheel, Donaukanal (danube canal), Cemetery of the Nameless, a café, a bar and other picturesque locations. Its cinematography is one of the best I’ve witnessed and the dialogue so intellectually stimulating and thought provoking at the same time.

The realism of the film is unblemished, almost each scene you were a part of their discussions based on the acting and camera angles. It’s fresh to see romantic films such as this compared to sex, vulgar or slapstick romantic comedies around. Some quotes that I really liked: Celine – “I had worked for this old man and once he told me that he had spent his whole life thinking about his career and his work. And he was fifty-two and it suddenly struck him that he had never really given anything of himself. His life was for no one and nothing. He was almost crying saying that.” Jesse – “I don't know, I think that if I could just accept the fact that my life is supposed to be difficult. You know, that's what to be expected, then I might not get so pissed-off about it and I'll just be glad when something nice happens.”

Not only is this a near perfect romantic movie, but also a symbolism of how we should sometimes perceive life and the people we love. Not everybody may enjoy the films execution since its dialogue heavy all through-out with certain shots of the lush locations, but for me, this is as close to authenticity of two people in love talking a myriad of topics and meeting at the right time of their lives. Before Sunrise delivers, more than you have expected.
