Edward Morra (Bradley Cooper) is a struggling writer, who has difficulties finishing his book. “Eddie” stumbles upon an ex-wife’s brother named Vernon (Johnny Witworth), who gave him a mysterious drug that could alter his lifestyle in a span of 30 seconds. He claims that NZT-48 has the ability for humans to access 100% of the brain's power, as opposed to the normal 20%. Eddie discovered the wonderful effects and decides to be dependent to the drug. He notices the side effects such lost time, frenetic activity, and heart palpitations. After controlling this, he swiftly becomes rich, being employed under the influential Carl Van Loon (Robert De Niro) and reunites with his ex-girlfriend Lindy (Abbie Cornish). Eddie runs into various obstacles but runs in the senate in the latter part of the picture.
The script was a bit confusing and it is a myth that we only use 20% of our brain. This premise reminded me of the matrix, but here the stored memory of the past is well utilized instead of uploading them. The visual effects were well utilized; film’s score kept it moving and the cinematography was apt. Bradley Cooper was convincing as a looser turned business magnate and the ladies played the parts well to add to the realism. In my view, De Niro doesn’t fit the corporate type of character that he depicted; still it was a treat to see him do a drama thriller. The action scenes and manner of “escaping situations” was well thought of. All in all, a good intellectual unique pop-corn flick that tickles your imagination with eye candy direction/sets/locations all throughout.
