The Princess Bride review

It starts with a sick boy (Fred Savage) and his caring grandfather (Peter Falk) who reads a novel to him. Main characters include a loyal farmhand Westley (Cary Elwes) and a beautiful girl named Buttercup (Robin Wright). Before the wedding of Buttercup and Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon), she was abducted by Vizzini (Wallace Shawn), a Spanish fencing extraordinaire named Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin) and a gentle giant named Fezzik (André the Giant). Inigo vows to avenge his father’s death by the malevolent six-fingered Count Rugen (Christopher Guest). He asks assistance from Miracle Max (Billy Crystal) to revive the dead Westly. Some memorable lines: Westley – “We are men of action, lies do not become us.” “Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.” Count Rugen – “If you haven't got your health, then you haven't got anything."
The cinematography of the film was just picturesque. Delightful performances all around with a matching score. Its screenplay was innovative and brilliant at times to the points of its humor was similar to Monty Pythons: The Holy Grail, only this had a better story, wittier dialogue and character development. So many likable characters, enjoyable set locations and themes. It has been on every “best of” comedy film list and is well recognized by critics. The topics of love, friendship, life, vengeance and family were well displayed. The picture never runs out of remarkable quotes. One of my favorite lines from the Grandfather – “Life isn't fair. Image of life isn't fair.” The Princess Bride is an excellent fantasy movie whose image will always shine bright for viewers who enjoy a good story with a touch of drama, love story and even adventure. A film for all ages to cherish.
