Lorenzo's Oil review
Daniel Corleone - wrote on 10/02/11
A true story based on a rare disease (adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) acquired by Lorenzo Odone. His parents, Michaela and Augusto make sacrifices in finding a cure thru research and experiments. Nick Nolte and Susan Sarandon displayed remarkable performances. Camera angles were brilliantly executed in varied positions while the music provided matched touching and heart aching scenes. Had a touching screenplay and wonderful lines: Michaela Odone - We are not asking, Doctor, for your anguish or your applause. We are asking merely for a little courage." “Now it's our only hope for Lorenzo.” Our parents suffer enough without being made the victims of false hopes. Themes of family, hope and sacrifice, are well exhibited in this film. Lorenzo’s fighting spirit and inspiring parents have led to numerous cures with people affected by ALD. This is a quiet classic that deserves recognition not only because of the astounding acting, skillful cinematography but also its aim in helping others without getting anything in return.
