Superman III review
Daniel Corleone - wrote on 12/17/11
The beginning of the film starts with a series of coincidental sequences as if you were expecting a comedy. Clark meets his childhood friend Lana Lang (Annette O'Toole). Brad (Gavan O'Herlihy) bulllies Clark and sticks beside Lana. August "Gus" Gorman (Richard Pryor) works for Ross Webster (Robert Vaughn) who plans on ruling the world by disrupting the weather and controlling the oil supply of he world. Gus is assigned of all places Smallville, where Clark is. Clark fights an evil superman and searches for Webster. The ultimate computer is built.
Pryor skills in his character which unfortunately seems to be the focus most of the time. The lack of a suitable antagonist, It seems this version is "kid-friendly" instead of a broader audience. One of the best lines from Webster - "Computers rule the world today." Pace of the film is snail paced, involving too many background characters. Only positive aspect is the performance of Reeves, cinematography old NY/Smallville, sincerity of Lana and Clark's relationship and how computers have evolved. Superman III is a disappointing follow-up filled with gags, lousy plot, ridiculous scenes (Gus with pink table cloth and skis, Superman beating-up Kent, blind going in circles and more) and uninteresting opponents.
