High Fidelity review

Rob Gordon (John Cusack) is a music lover who narrates and explains the nature of his relationships. He tries to reconnect with his ex’s after a break-up with his previous girlfriend, Laura (Iben Hjejle). Rob works with Dick (Todd Louiso) and Barry (Jack Black) at a record store named Championship Vinyl. Lowlights were the lack of charisma of Laura’s character to be likable, lead being to whiny and light plot. Highlights were the cool soundtrack, solid supporting cast, camera direction and style of storytelling. Screenplay was sensational with lines from Rob – “Relationships have become more sophisticated.” “We were frightened of being left alone for the rest of our lives.” “I'm tired of the fantasy, because it doesn't really exist.” “This is fate, this is destiny; it is beyond my control, beyond my fault.” Had many wonderful quotes and angst in which Cusack was able to portray in his repertoire. The star relies though on the hilarious Black and soft-spoken shy Louiso. High Fidelity is a good comedy that starts out depressing and eventually right in the end.
