Run Lola Run review

Lola (Franka Potente) gets a phone call from her distressed boyfriend, Manni (Moritz Bleibtreu). Manni looses 100,000 marks belonging to his crime boss by accidentally leaving it on a train. A bum gets the money while Manni blames Lola for being so sensitive and for believing love can solve anything. Lola asks help from her father and finds out a secret. She gets shot after the cops chase Manni and her. On her 2nd run, she discovers her father arguing and uses a stolen gun to persuade him. She witnesses Manni getting run over by a van. Lola’s final run she gambles to win more money and nobody dies and everything goes well with Manni's dilemma.

Potente’s shows a sincere portrayal of Lola and soundtrack was very upbeat. The directing style was distinctive, eclectic and fast paced. The only thing puzzling is Lola's character development, if she was just sleeping or has powers to control time, scream and foresee the future. From the narrator: “A mystery of unanswered questions. Who are we? Where do we come from? Where are we going? How do we know what we think we know? Why do we believe anything at all? Countless questions in search of an answer... an answer that will give rise to a new question... and the next answer will give rise to the next question and so on. But, in the end, isn't it always the same question? And always the same answer?” Run Lola Run helps us dissect these questions thru Lola in terms of willpower, chance, identity, choices and destiny (based on the other people Lola bumps into in her 3 runs).
