Jeff Harriman (Kiefer Sutherland) goes on a vacation with his girlfriend Diane Shaver (Sandra Bullock). He realizes that Diane never comes back. Barney Cousins (Jeff Bridges) admits that he abducted Diane. Rita (Nancy Travis) helps Jeff. The direction was not that structured and soundtrack almost non existent. Overloaded flashbacks and no descent explanation where Diane's fate was placed. Brilliant performances though from Bridges, Sutherland and Travis. The film gets interesting only when Jeff and Barney confront each other. The Vanishing has a slow build-up only to have a swift ending that just makes unsatisfied in the over all effort. This could have been way better.
