Battle Royale (Batoru rowaiaru) review Run!
Daniel Corleone - wrote on 06/06/12
A violent, thought provoking flick, despite its gory and absurd premise, shows hope and harsh realities of life. This picture gets better and better towards its conclusion, even from the very beginning as well. It even has elements of humor and horror despite the drama and action exhibited. Even though there were a number of students, each one has a story to tell from the hidden love, a loner to an innovative computer hacker. Screenplay and plot was exceptional. The story and lines alone are worth viewing with quotes from: Kitano - “Life is a game.” “But cheatings no good.” Kawada – “Really trusting someone is a hard thing to do.” Utsumi – “We’re all stupid.” Noriko – “I can’t trust any of them either.” Nanahara – “But we’ve got no choice but to keep moving forward…run for all your worth” “I don’t know what any of it means.” and Mitsuko - “Everybody’s got their reasons.” “I just didn’t want to be a loser anymore.” “You just have to fight for yourself. That's just life...” Score was sensational while the cinematography was spectacular. Details of the game and headcount were well thought off. Even the kids were sincere with their realistic performances. A film of real friendship, blaming people, crushes. trust, love, hidden desire, family discord, appreciation of life, violence, death, tactics, survival and choices were well presented.
