Serenity review

A mixture of humor, horror, drama, western, action and sci-fi all rolled into one package. This type of picture smiply gets better as you view this from the very first scenes. It boils down to this message from the flick - "We meant it for the best… to make people safer." and yet detrimental effects occur. Malcolm "Mal" (Nathan Fillion) is the Captain of Serenity, where his team consists of Zoe (Gina Torres), pilot Hoban "Wash" (Alan Tudyk), Inara (Morena Baccarin), weapons expert Jayne (Adam Baldwin), mechanic Kaylee (Jewel Staite), doctor Simon (Sean Maher) and his psychic sister River (Summer Glau). Only minor gripes would be the lack of character development/participation of Inara and better special effects in certain scenes, but doesn't necessarily affect the picture. Performances were authentic without compromising the comedic lines and pace just right. Set pieces, costumes, locations, score and action were spectacular. Screenplay for this genre was surprsingly thought provoking with lines: River - "People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right." Mr. Universe - "Everything goes somewhere, and I go everywhere." Kaylee - "Sometimes people have feelings" Jayne - ""If you can't do somethin' smart... do somethin' right." and Mal - "Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love. She'll shake you off just as sure as the turn of the world." Even the bonus features is top-notch loaded with interviews, deleted scenes, hilarious outtakes, and many treats for special feature nuts such as this critic. Serenity is definitely not one of the popular films created, it does however entertains with underlying themes of humanity, decisions (Mal), political motives (The Alliance), love, regret (Simon), belief and making a better world.
