The Ice Storn review
Daniel Corleone - wrote on 10/09/12
A tragic authentic film of two families consisting of Ben (Kevin Kline), Elena (Joan Allen) kids, 16-year-old Paul (Tobey Maguire) and 14-year-old Wendy (Christina Ricci) and neighbors, the Carvers, include Jim (Jamey Sheridan), Janey (Sigourney Weaver) with their children Mikey (Elijah Wood) and Sandy (Adam Hann-Byrd). Direction was remarkable though the pacing a bit slow in certain scenes. Screenplay was exceptional with quotes: Janey - "A person's body is his temple." Philip - "Sometimes the shepherd needs the comfort of the sheep." Paul - "In your life, it's kind of like you dip in and out of it, a place where things don't quite work out the way they should. But for some people, the negative zone tempts them." The picture never feels dated and the performances especially from Kline and Allen just electrifying. The Ice Storm may have its strong points of bad parenting, adolescence, married life, regret and friendships, but other-times patience is key and its conclusion surprising.
