Stalker review

"After all, everything has some sense. Sense and reason." Rarely can you see a sci-fi flick that is both profound, psychological and gripping without the usage of expensive, high-tech special effects, relentless action or popular artists these days . A slow burner at the beginning which builds-up tension throughout the peculiar exploration that will leave you breathless and thinking in the end. One requires time, patience and appreciation of the premise to fully comprehend the beauty of the picture. The Stalker (Alexander Kaidanovsky) is a knowledgeable guide who can bring people to "The Room" where people can make their innermost desires come true. The room is located in "The Zone" where it is heavily guarded by the military, two individuals try to enter it with the Stalker. Definitely boasts of one of the most authentic and breathtaking settings in a movie, sincere acting, precise direction coupled with a provocative/poetic script. So many spectacular lines from: The Writer - "You revel with all that power, that mystery, your authority." The Professor - Never do anything that can't be undone." The Stalker - "I understand it's not easy, but it will pass." "The Zone wants to be respected. Otherwise it will punish." Score was almost non existent to build the tension in certain scenes with actual sounds. A slight reservation some people who would view this would be the long camera shots, otherwise Stalker is a gorgeous and life affirming film which has metaphors on having no short-cuts through life, greed, selfish motives, fear (Professor & Writer), boring dull life (empty glass shatters in the end), a sacrificing journey, hope (The Room), faith (Monkey) and mother nature (The Zone). Stalker is a masterpiece and is assured in the annals of film as one of the best in its genre.
