Boogie Nights review

"This is a fine life you've made for yourself." After viewing this again, I never realized how funny (in the first half before the characters tumble downwards to mediocrity) and brilliant this picture was. Great character development and interesting from beginning to end. Shows the acting ranges of Julianne Moore, Philip Seymoure Hoffman and Mark Wahlberg. Has a killer soundtrack and spectacular direction. "If you wanted to, you can do anything." by Maggie ("Amber Waves"), "Are you my mom?" by Rollergirl and We've all done bad things." by Eddie Adams. So many topics touched based on each other such as individuality/dreams/family from Buck Swope (Don Cheadle), a man whose infidelities of his wife he can't take anymore shown by "Little" Bill (William H. Macy), a cocaine addict mother who never cared for her real child and seeks another represented by Maggie "Amber Waves" (Julianne Moore), a closet gay who desires a star in the figure of Scotty (Philip Seymour Hoffman), attaining an education from Rollergirl (Heather Graham), a father figure in Jack Horner (Burt Reynolds ), using ones talents Reed (John C. Reilly), greed exemplified by Todd (Thomas Jane) and pursue of becoming somebody represented by Eddie Adams "Dirk Diggler" (Mark Wahlberg). Boogie Nights is a splendid treat for those who enjoy 70's/80's era, porn industry and wacky characters.
