The African Queen review
Daniel Corleone - wrote on 01/12/13
This one is one of the popular classics that really touched this reviewers curiosity because of the two enigmatic leads. It involves boat captain Charlie Allnut (Humphrey Bogart) and religious Rose Sayer (Katharine Hepburn). Charlie is an obnoxious rude alcoholic while Rose tries to rehabilitate the boat owner who is scared to go thru a certain rapids.
Earnest performances and adequate plot keeps this viewable. The effects and pace were dated and slow respectively. Bogart's performance was earnest and Hepburn kept it real as well to make the pair watchable. Other than that, it was simplistic and nothing special except its a journey where you need the follow the two iconic protagonists. The African Queen has sufficient dialogues, soundtrack and some light humor to keep one interested.
