Django Unchained review

"This is my world, and my world is getting dirty." Not an ordinary flick for its genre. People who love the director, films in general and westerns would enjoy this. This is a stylish, cool, dramatic western picture with touches of effective humor and adequate action. With this said, one would not mind the length since its frame is picturesque coupled with delightful and sometimes disturbing scenes. The film revolves around Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz), a German dentist who hasn't practiced for 5 years, and a freed slave named Django (Jaime Foxx). The doctor requests Django to aid him in searching for the Brittle brothers. Schultz makes a personal mission for Django to rescue his wife from Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio). Samuel L. Jackson as Stephen will play a huge part in the paradigm shift of the movie, he was also hilarious with an unusual role.
Great cast, score, locations, cinematography and performances. DiCaprio was electrifying, Foxx was dramatic but the show belongs to the enigmatic Waltz. Old school western revisited with the authentic gun-slinging sequences, wardrobe and the bounty hunter explanation for those unfamiliar with the premise. Screenplay was clever and sharp as ever. Expertly directed coupled with the details that were impeccable such as the close-ups, overhead shots, flashbacks, comic timing and set pieces. Themes of friendship, playing parts, love, freedom, slavery, business ethics, survival and justice. If Unforgiven did it back in 1992, why not for Django Unchained? Highly entertaining while proving a point, which not movies do nowadays. This is a masterpiece worthy of Tarantino's works and accolades or not, this is a gem.
