"Eat, drink, man, woman. Basic human desires. Can't avoid them. All my life, that's all I've ever done. It pisses me off. Is that all their is to life? " A film that shows the early greatness from the skillful and detailed director's creativity and method of storytelling. The story is about Master Chef Chef Chu (Sihung Lung) and her daughters Jia-Jen, the oldest one (Kuei-Mei Yang), a bitter Christian school teacher, Jia-Chien, the middle child who is career oriented (Chien-lien Wu), and Jia-Ning, the youngest (Yu-Wen Wang). Great screenplay with lines "Whatever will be, will be." "What kind of a world is this?" "The truth is, you should be thankful someone's around to tell the truth." and "Life should not be like cooking: you need to wait until all ingredients are prepared." Sincere performances that make you interested with the characters. Pace was right and score applicable. Amazing direction and themes of food, raising kids, death, family and aging were touched. Eat Drink Man Woman even had touches of humor with the right amount of drama which makes it an entertaining and insightful film to watch. Realistic, scrumptious and thought-provoking. Definitely one of the director's best efforts relying on the plot alone. It's impossible not to get hungry after viewing this!
