Akira Kurosawa's Dreams review

Meticulous, gorgeous, provocative and an underrated piece of art. You'll even see a famous director act as Vincent Van Gogh. A film that tells the story of various dreams. The first is about a boy who disobeys his mother and asks for forgiveness. The 2nd is a boy being told by tree spirits that he cannot see the peach blossoms bloom because his parents cut down the peach trees. One of the spirits mentioned that he cried when the trees were being cut down and it wasn't his fault. They permit him and sees one tree sprouting, showing a glimmer of hope for the orchard. On the third dream, a group of mountain men encounter a terrible snow storm and are about to die when a mysterious lady whispers "The snow is warm." For the forth dream, a man walks into a tunnel and encounters his dead private.third platoon and an angry dog. In the "Crows" dream, a man meets Vincent Van Gogh and wanders inside a painting. In the next dream, 5 nuclear plants explode. In "The Weeping Demon," a man faces a demon. The last dream, a man meets a wise 103 year old elderly who voices his opinions.

One of the directors' visually compelling works which target the topics of parenting/forgiveness (1st dream), nature (2nd), hope (3rd), regret/guilt/acceptance of death (4th), obsession/passion/imagination (5th), lies/deceit/nuclear effects/child's innocence (6th), hell/ill-effects of mankind's actions due to a nuclear holocaust (7th) and death/science/way of life and death (last). Screenplay was thought provoking with lines: Old 103 man - "People get used to convenience." "Some say life is hard, but that is just talk. It is good to be alive, it is exciting!" Van Gogh - "A scene that looks like a painting doesn't make a painting. If you look closely, all of nature has its beauty." Nuclear Plant employee - "Man's stupidity is unbelievable." Some stories maybe too weird, still each one is smart, brilliantly scored and entertaining in each own way. Akira Kurosawa's dreams is one of his personal and best films which again tackle about humanity and life in a very methodical manner. Definitely one of the best fantasy flicks created with an intelligent premise.
