Days of Heaven review

"You know how people are." A second film that shows the promising director's capabilities. A love triangle that is like no other. Bill (Richard Gere) kills his boss in the manufacturing factory in Chicago he was working for. He moves to Texas with girlfriend Abby (Adams) and younger sister Linda (Manz). A wealthy farmer (Shepard) marries Abby. Things go wrong after the marriage. As always coming from the brilliant director, a clever screenplay with quotes: "They don't need you. They can get somebody else." "Nobody is perfect." "There were people sufferin' in pain and hunger." - Linda. "I don't think their honest people." - Foreman and "You'll be alright." - Abby. Locations and cinematography just gorgeous. The director always ever meticulous, close-up shots of the animals, a growing plant, weather up-to the sounds of crickets. The score especially the fire burning in the crops was unbelievable, which shows the genius of Ennio Morricone. Minor reservations this critic had were the accent of the narration, which sometimes needed clarity and a finality to Abby's character. One of the best scenes were the "hunting," locusts and police chase sequences. Days of Heaven is visually stunning coupled with deep themes of love, consequences of moral decay/lies, freedom of being yourself, karma and the unknown.
