A Woman of Paris review

"Well, such is life." Chaplin create an intelligent romantic drama without casting himself, and this critic was caught by surprised. The story revolves around Marie St. Clair, rich businessman Pierre Revel and aspiring artist Jean Millet who plans to leave their village for Paris. Paulette sees Revel after Marie decides to marry Jean. Well written with messages: "Why bring up the past?" "..marriage or luxury?" "Time heals, experiences teaches that the secret of happiness is in service to others." It's score was endearing with sades of The Godfather theme and the artists were sincere with their portrayals. The director touches on the subjects of love, being fickle minded, opportunists, attachment to luxurious objects in life and appropriate parenting. A Woman of Paris may have been a box office failure for it's time of release, it's sensitive subjects however has been used countless times in cinema such as the love triangles, differences of social classes, sacrificing for love and the method of parenting.
