Man of Steel review

"The world's too big...so make it small." Everybody knows the story of Superman, its matter of presenting it again on the big screen. It's funny how a ghost manages to do a lot, the love angle between Lois and Superman was rushed and it seems the battles of Superman with Zod dampens the welfare of humans. The length was prolonged due to details of special effects for the settings. Another observation was how dull this version of Lois Lane was depicted. Yes we see a glimpse of Lexcorp equipment being demolished but where was Lex Luther in this first installment. The action was more relentless but the story of aliens taking over the planet is done to death (this really felt like War of the Worlds from Spielberg mixed with Chronicle/Xmen).

On the positives, it was great to see Shannon and Russel go at it acting-wise and hand to hand. Lane was sincere as well but our hero seems to lack that certain impact to be a Superman with regard to being charming. The themes of fatherhood/parenting, alienation and choices were good but it doesn't show much of a character for Clark Kent. Some nice lines: "But where doing the best we can," “One day, you're going to have to make a choice. You have to decide what kind of man you want to grow up to be. Whoever that man is, good character or bad, it's going to change the world,” and "You were put here for a reason." Overall this version of Supes was action-packed and had good origin story, if only the protagonists had more to them (personality if you want to be specific) instead of being too serious and dramatic all the time.
