"Thunderball" by Yojimbo

SPECTRE steal two nuclear weapons and threaten to destroy two cities unless their ransom demands are met. Thunderball was the first James Bond film as we know them today; it introduced the now familiar gadgetry and various plot elements have been used and re-used in Bond films ever since. In this way Thunderball can be considered the most influential 007 of them all, and as such the gaping lapses in logic can be overlooked (surely adding settings to health equipment that can kill you is just plain bad for business?!) The formula of a globetrotting Bond encountering exotic beauties at every turn, aided by the ubiquitous Q and Felix Lighter has now passed into cliche, but Connery's quips still have wit, rather than the dumb one liners of Roger Moore and there are some strong female …

Thunderball review

SPECTRE demands 100 million in white flawless uncut diamonds from NATO in exchange for the bombs. The threat of the organizations is that they will destroy a major city in the United States or the United Kingdom if their demands are not met. Emilio Largo (SPECTRE No. 2) has plans to destroy Miami Beach and is accompanied by a mistress who falls for Bond named Domino (Claudine Auger). Shows signs of being dated in terms of special effects, nevertheless the plot was better than most Bond films. The only problem this reviewer has is the pace of the story. It's meat of the story is not that focused on and the action scenes were a bit dragging since it was underwater, though it was well choreographed. Connery was good but some of the humor were not that witty. The film however showcased …

Wanted to Know More About SPECTRE

It’s interesting to me when I look back on how the “James Bond” franchise changed over several decades. I can understand why many people consider Sean Connery as the best 007 because he can be dangerous and charming at the same time–and looks like he’s having fun. “Thunderball” is the fourth Bond picture and it’s different from the first three because it has so many cheesy but (sometimes) amusing one-liners. I consider this movie to be uneven because even though rousing action sequences are still present, they are immediately followed by tedious dialogue that only occasionally push the story forward. It’s a shame because the picture truly shines when the audiences are actually seeing SPECTRE’s plan in action, all the while knowing that Bond will somehow keep them from …

Awesome bond film

"Thunderball" is directed by Terence Young picking up after Guy Hamilton from the previous film. Young, who directed the first two films of the series, is certainly one of the most important filmmakers of the Bond saga. In the hands of some hack, "Thunderball" could have easily been an overlong boring disastrous attempt, but Young fills the screen with the same thrilling charm and glamour that made the first two Bonds so unique. The most cinematic of all Fleming novels, the movie is quite faithful to its source material while adding some welcomed changes (the character of Fiona Volpe for example) an therefore making it a more entertaining movie-going experience.
This was one of the first Bond films that I have ever seen, and it still ranks in one of my favorite Bond films of all time.
