Kate Winslet is exquisite as the seventeen year old Rose, the upper class young woman betrothed to an obnoxiously rich man (Billy Zane). The story is told from an older Rose's point of view and follows her adventures aboard the "unsinkable ship" as she falls in love with third class passenger Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) who wins tickets for the Titanic at a poker game.

The ending for me was difficult to watch showing the arrogance of the White Star Line people, the desperation of the passengers as the ship is sinking, the fight for their life, the desperate attempt to find other ships to help and I was close to tears. However it is a must watch winning 11 Oscars AND it has a Celine Dion song to boot.

If you're looking for a historical documentary, you won't find it here, but if …

Titanic review

It’s very ironic how a historical even can lead to a typical Hollywood film about a romantic couple named Jack and Rose. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are talented artists; add Billy Zane and Kathy Bates to make this a respectable ensemble. Leo and Kate have good on-screen chemistry, the supporting cast did well. There were really long scenes that felt like watching a long soap opera waiting to unfold. The heart was there, unfortunately the melancholic event was not suitable for its idea. It would have been better to make a film with one of its survivors. It is one of the breakthroughs in CGI since they were able to replicate a massive sinking ship. Still, the visual effects and talents are not enough to save the drowning picture.

Titanic is the story of Rose and Jack, separated by class, who fall in love on the "Titanic". Unfortunately, the ship hits an ice berg and Rose and Jack become the two unluckiest people in the world. And the rest is history. The beginning half was kind of boring. It was a sappy love story, the scenes dragged out for too long and the acting was borderline over-acting. It was still pretty good though. I would give the beginning half 70% or 80%. But then the second half just blew my mind. It had great suspense, action, special effects. The second half could have been released on it's own, and been filed as a disaster film (HISTORIC disaster film). The second half I give a perfect 100%. Is it the greatest film ever made? No, definitely not. It's too cliched and predictable. But it still is a …

Ship of dreams

I remember sometime in grade school (early eighties) becoming obsessed with the story of the Titanic. As a kid it was always the size of the ship that drew me in and and held my fascination. In my home town I would walk whole blocks and count off the 882 ft. When the wreckage was found in 85 there was a flood of books and newspaper stories that I just devoured. I even tried to get our library to order a detailed schematics book which detailed the living quarters, boiler rooms, captain room ect. The librarians looked at me like I was nuts.

Cut to 1997 and one of my favorite directors, James Cameron, releases his film about the doomed ship. I was a junior in high school yet when I saw that first trailer I was instantly swept away and I was a little kid again. I watched that trailer …

This movie portrays how a society based on money = power really function in sticky situation. It gives a fair picture of how unfair this system can work. Along with being a realistic and believable movie, James Cameron manages to hold the audience's attention by evolving the movie and the historic happenings around the beautiful love story that occurs between Rose and Jack. Although the ending might seem unfair (I think I cried my heart out), the moral is that unless you are willing to let go of "the safe solution" in life you will never be able to gain something better. She did. A wonderful movie that will make you laugh, boil with anger, cry, shake your head - you name it. It is absolutely a "must-see" movie, that surely will make you think. If you take away the special effects from …

Too long and too thin.

The problem with this film, well it is basically everything. I was forced to watch this when I did watch it and did not enjoy a single second of it. To give a fair shake since that time was long ago I force myself this time to examine it once more, and my opinion did not change. The story itself is your basic love story thrown in with a disaster movie. The interesting thing is it only has stock characters not one is original or has any true depth, the villain is just a plain villain, and the main characters are just the basic archetypes of their kinds of characters. The acting is severely overrated, I like both of the main actors later on in later films but here that are rather stale. I say it is too long because all it is, is a love story which should never go for three hours. The tech …

"Rose" (Gloria Stuart, also played in the scenes set at the time of the sinking by Kate Winslet), a woman who claims to be a survivor of the Titanic disaster, comes aboard a ship of researchers who are searching the wreckage for a blue diamond known as the "Heart of the Sea," which she claims to have worn hours before the ship sank after striking an iceberg.

She describes an incredible story with facts not publicly known which causes the lead researcher (Bill Paxton) to believe her story.

She describes how she met a poor, aspiring artist (Leonardo DiCaprio) whom she falls in love with, despite being engaged to an well-off, arrogant jerk (Billy Zane) who treated her like a piece of property more than the woman he loved.

She also describes interacting with such historical …

This movie was very different to how I thought it would be. Half the people I know think it is boring and the other half think it is the most romantic movie ever. I didn't really think either. The movie is thoroughly captivating, definitely not boring, and it really is romantic, just not to that extreme.

It is about a beautiful young woman who is engaged to a heartless, wealthy man. They board the Titanic, for its first voyage, but she realizes that she is not satisfied with her life. Then she meets a poor, young man who she soon falls in love with.

This movie isn't really old fashioned at all, which was what I was expecting. This was the first movie I have watched starring Leonardo DiCaprio's, and now I want to watch more of his movies, he's great!

I have been meaning to watch …

An important achievement in film history. I saw this film when I was about nine or ten years old and never have I seen a disaster film that could match its greatness. Upon watching this film, I've experienced a wide variety of emotions: a sense of wonder, happiness, great sadness, pulsating fear, warm romanticism... Even though I saw this movie nine years ago, I could still recall certain scenes so vividly, as if they are somehow embedded in my brain. That's what excellent film making is all about: putting one's image into other souls and affect them in such a way that will impact their lives. I will never forget Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet's beautiful performances. Many people believe that this film should've been about the disaster itself. I don't think so. I think heart is a …

Review - Titanic (1997)

The Titanic was known as The Ship of Dreams by many, but Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) just thought of it as another ship to America. Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio), however, thought of it as his ship home, that is until meeting Rose. Their story of love and loss set on board one of the most horrific and embarrassing moments in history is fictionally accounted in the Best Picture winning film, "Titanic."

What can I say about the most successful film ever made? A worldwide total gross of $1.85 million. Eleven Oscars from fourteen nominations. The only thing it didn’t succeed at in my personal opinion is being a credible love story, but I shall expand on this.

“Titanic” is an amazing film. The visuals are absolutely stunning, the music is top-notch, and the history is …
