"Ice Cold In Alex" by Yojimbo

Two British soldiers, two stranded nurses and a South African officer attempt to reach the Allied lines and safety when they are cut off from their convoy in the African desert. Typical of the kind of stiff upper-lipped war film of the time, Ice Cold In Alex marks itself out from the crowd by being rather more understanding of the ordinary German soldier and tells a tale of co-operation and mutual respect in the face of adversity. The format is very much a hybrid of a war film and a road movie as we follow the ambulance on its journey making it feel a little episodic, and so many of their problems are motor repair orientated that it does tend to feel like a Top Gear challenge at times.
