This...Is....Stupid!!!!!!!!!!!

This was the cinematic equivalent of the Macarena. An example of filmmaking that was so dam popular but it vanished as soon as it arrived and if anyone brings it up, they are seen as out of touch or weird.
Remind me again why this movie is so popular? Sure it's got some good action scenes but so does every Michael Bay film ever yet he's as hated as Hitler. Is it cuz of the story? A bunch of closeted exercise junkies didn't want to share their pad with the new neighbors? Give me a break. Is it the acting? Yelling and screaming like a WWE announcer does not equal an Oscar worthy performance. If that was the case then Daniel Day Lewis should give back his 3rd one.
What kills me most is how psychopathic, xenophobic, and fascistic the living conditions are in Sparta but they're seen as …

"300" by Yojimbo

When the corrupt oracles rule that Sparta should not be defended against the oncoming Persian army, King Leonidas leads an army of 300 warriors to defend their lands. In other words a dozen male strippers hack away in slow motion at a collection of CGI circus freaks and a giant drag queen for two solid hours. And that's it. Plot development? Nope. Characterisation? Nada. Meaningful dialogue? Zip. If anything, 300 is like a historical Ultraviolet, except instead of plastic sci fi cliches spouting techno-gibberish it just resembles a collection of Bill and Ted's album covers brought to life linked by a load of macho posturing in cod Olde Worlde speak. It's an adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel so there is some nice imagery and well framed shots in deference to his vision, but I …

This movie suffers the unfortunate fate of being too popular in that, like scar face and taxi driver before it the lines and scenes have become go ingrained into pop culture that the original movie seems itself cliche and played out. But on the up side, things like that really do only happen when something is so good every one and their mother wants to parody it. There is an entire movie made just to parody this one and that's got to be saying something. This was really new for it's time when it came out. Combining history, action and CGI in the ways only a top blockbuster action would was really a first. Though the truth of the story is quite stretched it's still a fairly epic tale. I could certainly recommend the watch to anyone who wasn't already warped by the amount of parody done …

300 Review

This movie is probably my favorite movie of all time. It's a greek hertiage and i'm greek so it's that much more great in my opinon. Gerard Butler did amazing tour de force performance from him his best so far in the movie business. All the other cast members did great made the movie much more better but Gerard Butler carried this movie on his shoulders across the finish line to perfection. It's one of the greatest if not the greastest war film out there it shows you to never back down, never give up and fight like men. That's how it should be. I loved every second of this film. It's top notch the scenary is amazing and the war scenes are incredible. If you like war films this movie is for you. It may feel unrealistic to some but it's based so long ago how do we know what the world was …

Action: 3 / 3, Comedy: 0 / 2, Good vs Evil: 1 / 1, Love/Sex: 1 / 1, Special Effects: 1 / 1, Plot: 0.5 /1, Music: 0.5 / 1 = 7/10 or 70%.
300 became a pop-culture icon and spurred debates similar to the ones Braveheart summoned in the 90's. These controversies revolved around histroical accurracy and the overtly evil nature of the enemies (in 300 the Persians, in Braveheart the English). What many forget is that this is a comic book film adapted from a Frank Miller graphic novel. It is a tribute to Spartans and class struggles as much as Braveheart was a celebration of Scottish struggles. Therefore to penalize this for historical accurracy is just as logical as penalizing Captain america for not actually fighting in World War 2 (He didn't by the way).
Apologetics aside, 300 is one …

A Pslam to Senseless Mayhem
aknudse2 - wrote on 09/20/2008
Zach Snyder's 300 recites a psalm to senseless mayhem that embraces the worst aspects of the comic book genre. The characters consist of flimsy caricatures of good and evil, lacking even the pretense of reflection or genuine depth. The dialog is horrifically stilted and teeming with banal breast beating. The reviewer could summarize the uninspiring linear plot; but honestly, to avoid historical confusion, the dear reader is advised to consult Wikipedia's entry for the Battle of Thermopylae (and to skip the movie).
Granted, the graphics in this movie may impress. Perhaps the pornographic carnage enables modern Americans to enjoy vicariously some of the most brutal episodes from our species' beastly past. Like an aspirant Larry Flynt, Zack Snyder seeks to profit from the arousal …

300 .. or so

Dear Reader,
(I don't really remember a lot of this film, but I'll do my best.) If you love delicious, action slacked (slow motion), grade A, un-homogenized, pure, "sexy" violence, you might love this film. As for those of us who go to the movies for the story ... I don't remember there being one. All I remember is that a bunch of jocks wanted to chuck a javelin at the gay dude, who probably has a mean rating of 9.98 on vampirefreaks.com, and then the jocks got impaled by a bunch of fancy lawn darts, which I had previously thought were illegal. That might not be an accurate recount of the movie. Let me try again. It was basically like Braveheart, yeah, only on steroids, meth, X, horse, 'shrooms, crank, blow, huff, windowpane, amps, pot (for the slow motion effects) and it was …

Very Overrated
ZJW - wrote on 01/28/2008
300 was a surprise hit in spring 2007 and immediately had a massive following of fans. I know many friends that love this movie and even hail it as one of the greatest ever made. Having seen this film twice now though i'm still not sure why so many people consider this film to be so great. Many critics hail its visual style as something impressive and while it occasionally proves interesting it never amazes me. The story is very loose and don't go looking for anything resembling facts. From what I can tell this film is a series of action sequences which more times than not tended to bore me. Thrown in between are speeches that while meant to be dramatic and inspiring leave me rolling my eyes.
It's not all bad but it certainly is nowhere near as good as everyone claims it is. Of …

300 is a Big Screaming Muscle of a Comic Movie
efrain - wrote on 11/14/2007
If you blended “Braveheart”, “Gladiator”, “Sin City”, and “Romeo + Juliet” together in a sort of protein shake, and drank that while wrestling a few sweaty, half-naked body-builders during a pro-war rally – that’s kind of what “300” is like.
A giant, sinewy muscle of a movie, “300” is a fictionalized, epic account of the real-life Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C., wherein King Leonidas of Sparta led 300 of his finest soldiers against the Persians. The battle and defeat of Sparta inspired all of Greece to unite against the Persians to create the world’s first democracy.
Director, Zack Snyder (“Dawn of the Dead) starts “300” with a visual crash course on the brutal warrior culture of Sparta, as originally imagined by graphic novel writer/artist, …

Ladies and Gentlemen,History has left the building
Topher - wrote on 08/13/2007
300 masturbates with the blood of its own repressed homoeroticizism. Unwilling to face its desire for oiled-up, scantily clad male bodies, the film releases its sexual fury in an orgiastic cyclone of violence.
Forget about history when you watch 300: this film is about the American Perspective circa 2006. Like the US during the Bush Era, this film is saturated with the rhetoric of freedom, democracy and glory.
By the terms of this rhetoric, the only thing protecting democracy from hoards of Middle Eastern evil-doers is a small elite force of warriors. The Persian fighters are protrayed either as quasi-supernatural demons with monstrous features or as pathetic slaves under the whip of a cruel despot, who happens to be nine feet tall and speak with the voice of a god. The …
