Original, passionate, and emotional. "Adaptation" is smartly and thematically powerful.

Felt like I was reading the screenplay, rather than watching the film itself. There are multiple layers to this meta story, which are partly based on the actual writer's experience. This is a funny and unique story that subverts the act of screenwriting and turns all conventions on their head.

What happens when a desperate mind unravels into mediocrity and cliche? The answer here is creative crazy genius. Kaufman strives to craft a simple story without car chases, drugs, sex, guns, characters making major life changes or songs. The result is a twisted tribute to movies where all these things coexist "so happy together."

One barely even knows what this movie is about, to be honest, but it never fails to hold your interest, especially in the last half hour, when the movie just goes crazy throwing in all kinds of plot twists. I don't really know what point they were trying to make, but I didn't hate it...

As a filmmaker myself, I liked the self-realized parts of the film and the hefty nods to Robert McKee's Story as an influence. The film is occasionally as neurotic as its characters, occasionally slowing down when it gets caught up in the twisting and turning subplots. Cage's over-acting serves him well here, though.

I wasn't sure whether to categorize this as a comedy or a drama, because it is definitely hysterical, yet at the same time, it was incredibly touching and dramatic. Leave it to Kauffman to do that to ya [who also wrote "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"]. I thoroughly enjoyed everyone's performances in this movie, especially Chris Cooper's, whom I found to be one of the best anti-villains [is that a term?] that has ever been written. Charlie Kauffman is one of the best writers working right now and working with Spike Jonze was a match made in movie Purgatory [because neither belong in Heaven and neither deserve Hell].

A strange but interesting show.

Charlie Kaufman was frustrated in adapting a book about orchids, so he made a movie about it - yes, the frustration. Nic & Nic's characters are good, but unfortunately brother Don does not exist and this is the only time a fictional character has been credited and nominated for writing a screenplay. YIKES!

Nicholas cage did a great job - for about the firs time ever. The movie is crazy but yet sometimes slow, great yet sometimes not so good. Once you learn the background of the story and see it more than once, you start to like it more. Ok.
