So funktioniert 500 Days Of Summer.

(500) Days of Summer review

This movie is an anomaly. (500) Days of Summer is coming at a time when we are all tired of romantic comedy's that are promising to be something new and exciting. This movie was marketed as a romantic comedy which was new and exciting. But that's really the only way to describe this little gem of a movie. Sure it's not without a flaws, but it's difficult to find a romantic comedy(or a movie for that matter) with such a beautiful sense of melancholy, flashes of laugh out loud comedy and a emotional ride from highs to lows which actually effect the viewer.
Tom Hansen (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is our not quite typical lead. Tom is working at his dead end job as a greeting card writer and half aspiring to be an architect, his routine life is one day interrupted by Summer Finn (Zooey …

A Stylish, Realistic Charmer*

This film floated into my life at just the right time.
Movies are magic like that. You could be going through a certain something and suddenly find yourself viewing a story strikingly similar to the story you're currently living.. And you feel that spark that has you cackling at certain scenes until you're clapping, and/or tearing up at other moments (as much as you try to hide it.)
Of course, as "touched" as I was by it, I am aware that this type of connection had to be felt by a countless amount of folks when THEY first saw it.
For me it was spot on.
My sappiness aside, this is a cleverly crafted film. Everything including the editing, soundtrack (You just can't go wrong with The Smiths) color scheme, wardrobe, set design - every detail was well thought out and …

(500) Days of Summer

I just saw this movie for the second time. It's adorable. It's a quirky indie romantic comedy with uber-charming characters. There are some twists--it's not quite just a boy-meets-girl movie. Deschanel and JGL are so endearing, I can't even explain it. I'm so in love with him, and I'm a little lez for her, too. Or maybe just her clothes and her hair.
This movie is very easy to identify with. If you've ever been in love, fallen out of love, been unhappy in a relationship, or dwelled over someone like a psycho (I have experienced all of these things), then you'll find yourself saying "Yes, exactly!" Which, in my opinion, is all any director can hope to make his audience say.
Speaking of the director, 500 Days of Summer is filled with fun little experimental moments, like a dance …

This is not a love story. Then what is it?

Let me start off with this, romantic comedies usually always suck. The main character is usually the girl, and she's usually dumb, blond, or both. But (500) Days of Summer was a unique addition to the romantic comedy genre. For one, the characters are easy to relate to. Another thing that separates this movie from other Romantic Comedies is it's actually funny. And not funny because it's bad either. My favorite part was the expectations/reality scene. I don't think anyone in the history of cinema has ever done anything like that. Before I saw this, a lot of people were saying it was snubbed at the Oscars, and I agree. It was a great movie, but a lot of times the academy doesn't pick the best movies. My suggestion is: If you are not an emotionless troll, see this movie.

I'll start off saying this movie will without a doubt end up on my 'Favorite Movie Shelf' on my DVD case. Pairing this movie with a freshly brewed pot of coffee, eggs and a some cinnamon/rum bread with sliced strawberries and maple syrup; and I think I had a brilliant beginning to a rainy Saturday.
If you have not seen this movie yet, stop reading here as I intend on (as most reviews do) talking about parts of the movie and I don't want to spoil it for ya.
This flick had me going up in down, in literal and rhetorical senses. The story is largely told non-linearly (which I love in flicks), so you see segments of the two main characters relationship...the good and the bad...inter-cut with each other. Not only was it toying with my emotions in a way, because you basically know how …

Retelling of Every Other Film You've Seen Before

A cutesy film that reeks of Annie Hall (structurally and story-wise), Garden State (instead of The Shins, it's The Smiths), and scenes from my own life (Summer telling Tom ahead of time that she didn't want anything serious, etc.), (500) Days of Summer is the new summer indie film that is designed to take the world by storm. Unfortunately, that's the problem. We've seen nearly everything all before.
When we get to Summer's apt., there are dolls that are reminiscent of the potato people Clementine designed in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The whole story is told out of order, like it's trying to be a cool hipster version of Memento.
The movie was so weird, because I felt like I lived through 85% of the same experiences myself. However, every once in awhile there would be a …
