Soulless Adaptation

Chase - wrote on 10/31/2015

This is kind of a fascinating movie, mostly because of the amount of hate that this movie brings to it and its director, M. Night Shamyalan. Going into the movie, I knew that I was going to get a bad movie, and while I do think that it is not good, I don't hate myself watching it. I have to point out that I was a huge fan of the TV show but I won't point out the differences between that and the movie as I'm only going to judge the movie on its own. Despite what most people think, there are a few good things about it. Frist of all, I really like how they handled the villains, specifically Zuko and Uncle Eyro. The two actors did a good job and I bought into their relationship. And some of the action scenes I thought was pretty decent for the most part. Everything else, however, …

M. Night Shyamalan's Magnum Opus!

The crimes that this movie committed against moviegoers everywhere are now the stuff of cinematic legend. This could have been the next Harry Potter but no it had to suck! Why why why why why they believed that this was the best way to adapt the television series remains perhaps the greatest mystery regarding this steaming pile of **** that will forever be linked to one helluva animated series.
The acting sucks across the board. They got poor Cliff Curtis and that Indian dude from Comedy Central as the baddies while a bunch of crappy child actors. I wonder if Nicola Peltz sucked some **** to get this role. God knows that's how she landed her bit in Transformers 4. Meanwhile the tightass Jackson Rathbone plays Sokka like it's a form of enhanced interrogation techniques.
Everything …

The Last Airbender

Not good, in fact it's one of the worst movies I've seen in years. I hated it! The acting was horrible, basically every actor sucked even though there were some talented actors involved. The script was poorly written and cheesy. The story jumped around a lot and made very little sense at times, which is strange because I was familiar with the story because I watched a little of the show. The fighting sequences were stupid. Some of the CGI was okay, but not good. I'm now a firm believer that M. Night Shyamalan will never have a comeback as this film is nothing but pure garbage. He can't handle directing a film even with good material being handed down to him. It's incredible how quickly his career imploded. A complete shame and one of the absolute worst films of 2010. A dreadful, …

"The Last Airbender" by Yojimbo

A world populated by four tribes who can manipulated the elements of fire, water, earth and air can only regain balance upon the return of The Avatar, but the ambitious ruler of the Fire Nation is interested only in conquest. M. Night Shyamalan clearly wished to create a epic fantasy world in the vein of Lord Of the Rings by pillaging Eastern religions and philosophy. Unfortunately the mythology he created is muddled and inconsistent and despite some impressive visual spectacle the whole film falls flat on its face. The kid's TV standard cast are completely lacking in the kind of presence or charisma needed to pull this kind of thing off and some painful exposition and very clunky dialogue makes it very difficult to care about any of it. MNS's grasp of directing action misses the mark …

The Failure that is the Last Airbender

To those thinking about viewing The Last Airbender by M. Night, please don't. If you are looking to see a good portrayal of the animated kid's tv show Avatar: The Last Airbender, this is not the film to go see. Watch the actual tv show on Netflix or something. This is just a waste of your time.

This film is chuck full of bad acting, bad writing, and somewhat racial groupings of Asian and Indian culture. The only good thing that this film has going for it is the quasi-decent graphics. Many key points of the first season that were supposed to be portrayed, were not. Night basically strewed himself on this fact, for many of these points that were left out, come up in the other two seasons. If he were to attempt to fill in these details in a second film, while trying to continue the …

Utter Disappointment

I love M. Night Shyamalan, and I love the TV series "Avatar: The Last Airbender", so naturally I was really excited for this movie. But when I finally was able to see it, my heart was just torn. The names were all pronounced wrong, the acting seemed way too animated, and so much was flipped around. In the first "book", 'Sokka', 'Aang', and 'Katara' don't fly to the Earth Kingdom; they head straight for the Northern Water Tribe. Then at the end with the big fight between the Fire Nation and the Northern Water Tribe, 'Aang' is supposed to use his Avatar powers to turn into this giant Water Creature and crash some of the Fire Nation Ships, and then have them retreat. But no, the climax was when 'General Zhao' (not Commander) was killed by four Water Tribe people. Yes, most of the special …

The Last Airbender Review

I saw this film using the same method I used to see the movie I hated last year. I went in with expectations that this film would only be on the same level as said film… And I was totally blown away... And not in the good sense. And understand, this wasn't a bad movie… This was the most convoluted, poorly acted, awfully choreographed, snooze inducing, *&^%(^& creating, &**%&*(ing, pile o' s***@#$^&**&#^%*&^&@#^%&* I have seen this year and it actually manages to surpass Dragonball Evolution. Yes people, I'm going that far, this movie manages to surpass the worst movie of 2009 in terms of utter suckage. Before I continue any further, I would here forth like to offer my most sincere apologies to Mr. James Wong for any ill intent I may have had against him in the aftermath of my …

Mixed Review

I found the movie to be a bit disappointing. It just didn't fit all together right, which is weird as that usually watch Shyamalan is good at. Overall, I liked the actors in their parts, the action was pretty good, and the special effects were great. There was too much narration and telling of the story rather than showing of the story. Some scenes and parts really worked and then other just didn't making it difficult to review the movie as a whole. The story needed to be focused rather than trying to cram in as much as the show (which is great) into the movie. The result is that the action to talking ratio is way off and the pace of the movie is quite slow in contrast to what I think is a well paced tv show. All that being said, I would probably watch the second installment, …

Ember Island Players did a better job

If you got that reference you will not like this movie. They change most of the pronunciations of the names, which if you watched the show will either distract you or just piss you off.
Jackson Rathbone is Soka (or Suck-A cause his acting sucks Ass.) The girl who played Princess Yue just looks like a freak with her one eye bigger than the other and crappy contact lenses. The girl who plays Katara equally sucks.
Aasi Mandvi? What are you even doing in this movie? Did they run out of Indians? Go back to the daily show where you belong.
I feel that if you're making an adaptation, it should make you wanna seek out the source material. This will not do that if you haven't seen the show you won't cause this movie is so retarded.
The plot was rushed, the writing horrible, and just a big …

Bring on Book 2!!

I personally thought this was a well done movie, it is the best M. Night has accomplished since "The Sixth Sense"! The Last Airbender has a unique story line similar to the cartoon series, of course though, not exact, and this is where you must keep an open mind. The cartoon series will always be better, there's no doubt about that. But M. Night has made this wonderful fictional story into a film that just sucks you in immediately. The effects were amazing. He has used the best CGI effects I think I've ever seen. The acting is a little "meh" on some parts, but they can easily be fixable and improved if we get the next two movies following this one. There were a few cheesy parts, but to me, they had an adorable side to them. The story line was a bit rushed, but if you are paying …
