Sucker Punch review
Daniel Corleone - wrote on 10/12/2012
Coy lines coupled with a monotonous soundtrack filled with remakes of such good songs. Lacked character development (or interesting ones in fact), history of the asylum, war and the girl's abilities with the weapons/supernatural features. The entire film focused on the overly done slow-motion shots which exploits the action instead of a decent plot. Even the ending was impossible, though only thing that salvages film from having the lowest score were the action sequences. Typical style, beauties and flash (visual effects loaded) over substance and logic, Sucker Punch just suckered this reviewer into viewing this. This would be trashy if it were done 10 or 15 years ago. A prime example of style over substance. Not sure what the director's message was, violence for all solves …

"Sucker Punch" by Yojimbo

A young girl who accidentally kills her sister in an attempt to save her from her evil stepfather is committed to a mental institution and within creates a fantasy world in which she is a heavily armed superhero. If Inception were made by Hugh Hefner instead of Christopher Nolan, you'd have got Sucker Punch. The combination of comic strip violence, computer generated visuals and the "Boss Fight" format is very reminiscent of Scott Pilgrim but the best way to describe this film is it's like someone downloaded a bunch of video game cut scenes from Wolfenstein and Devil May Cry and inter-cut them with Coyote Ugly. The big problem with Sucker Punch is that the scenes in between the set pieces that are set in the strip joint which are supposedly providing the narrative and characterisation …

Dissapointing yet entertaining nonetheless

I thought this would be alot better then it was. The opening segments (that best describe as a music video) were in my opinion the best parts of this film. The director should've stuck with that storyline instead of the potpouri we end up recieving. Basic newcomer Emily Browning (last seen in Lemony Snickett's A Series Of Unfortunate Events) plays Baby Doll in this, who after being framed by her evil stepfather for the murder of her younger sister, gets locked away in a local mental asylum (I know we all have a local mental asylum in all of our small towns dont we? Mine being in the very house i live in haha) after advising along with a hefty bribe to the on site man in charge to lobotomize her in an effort to silence her forever to real events surrounding her sister's death as to which …

Reality vs. fantasy!
MovieAddict - wrote on 04/02/2012
A young girl (Emily Browning as Babydoll) is institutionalized in an asylum by her abusive step father after her mother's death. Once inside the asylum her imagination fortifies a paranormal world and imagines it a high class brothel, so she doesn't have to deal with the pain of being in a psycho prison. Within this realm she develops a plan to escape, along with new friends Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish), Rocket (Jena Malone) and my Amber (Jamie Chung).
Sucker Punch was an amazingly visual experience with stunning slow-motion action scenes and a pulsating background score so if you're into visual effects and beautiful girls in short skirts and fishnet stockings this is the film to see. But whilst the action is spectacular the overall tone is quite bleak so …

Stylish but...

"Sucker Punch" is a fantasy, thriller, action movie about a young man who desires for her freedom after her abusive stepfather sent her to a mental institution. With her, is four other women, who get to realized this thing as she comes in to their situation.
I can't really explain how this movie works. The effects, the style are really excellent. And without a doubt, acting isn't good, or let us just say, it is bad. For me, it was a lame acting for Emily Browning, that I questioned why she got the lead role.
However, I appreciate how this particular motion picture brought us really something new, SOMETHING BIG-I would like to say. It was really, as if, an attempt to mix all movie genres. It is just that, the direction wasn't that clear. Story wise, it was predictable and at times, …

potential down the drain!

I was so pumped for another Zach Snyder film but they have steadily been getting crappier. I had a feeling this one was going to let me down too but the trailer made it seem like it was full of potential. Looked like an Alice and Wonderland mixed with the Matrix. Although the movie has a badass soundtrack and some very good action sequences, it is all over the place. Once you see it you'll completely understand. They go into this dream world based on the main characters lap dances. like wtf? really? Zach, you couldn't of thought up another way to send them into these ass kickin fantasies, like hmmm the easiest way drugs? they are in a mental istitution/bordello....... Then I read the interview with Snyder on the movie and all the shitty reviews and was like this guy is a douche! a big, …

What do you expect?

Before I went in the theatre my friend warned me that this movie is not gonna be one of the best movie, but only something visually stylish. I was fully aware of that but I have too heightened expectation from Zack Snyder, since he has yet to make a bad film. Although this is not really bad, but it easily be his worst.
The film is filled with different incoherent action sequences, from fighting in a Japanese Temple, the castle in "The Two Towers", the train in "John Carpenter's Ghost on Mars", to some futuristic war zone. Each fight represents a dance that the girl has to perform to get other's attendion while other girls steals some tools for their escape.
While these action scenes are nicely shot, and stylish, they are boring since we are not emotional invested. As long as we can …

Not Quite What I Expected

The trailers for Sucker Punch looked pretty awesome. But, the trailers only showed one facet of what the movie really was, so I had different expectations before going to the movie. After watching the movie I was a bit disappointed because only parts of the movie had the great action scenes and effects that the trailers had shown. The movie was still a decent movie, probably worth while seeing the theatres if the trailer sparked your eye. I'm glad I watched it, but it will probably be a movie soon forgotten.
The story was mediocre at best, the acting was only a little better. The action/fantasy world was pretty good, the special effects were great, and the music was what really makes this movie awesome to watch. The music in itself saves this movie from being a complete …

Don't Think, Just Feel

I knew what to expect going into this film, and it delivered exactly what I wanted. Zach Snyder has once again delivered, though this is more of a visual punch then a well-crafted story.
It's obvious from the first time I saw a trailer that Sucker Punch was targeting a male audience - I mean, you have literally a live-action video game on screen featuring young women sporting fishenets, tight clothes, schoolgirl outfits and working the whole gothic Lolita vibe - plus, they kick ass doing it. If you can go beyond the surface (yes, I know it's hard, but you can do it!) this is actually a lot more about female empowerment even if it has all the trappings of a male fantasy.
Essentially it's the story about a girl sent to an asylum after her mother dies and her step father, angry that …
