Probably the highest praise I can give it is that it wasn't as dreadful as it sounds from the premise. A lot of good performances, but couldn't anyone find a better use for these actors?

Unique and interesting portrayal of how a depressed man and his family cope with his illness. A good drama that handles the material in a positive way and is acted convincingly by Gibson.

This is a unique movie, one that's not like others that are out there. Mel Gibson is pretty good as his character, who finds an unorthodox method of dealing with his depression. It predictably alienates his family, but pleases everyone else, and I liked the pop culture/train wreck tie-in the movie had. There's a subplot with the teen characters that didn't really interest me, mainly because I'm over the angsty-teen-who-calls-his-dad-by-his-first-name. Given Gibson's troubles, I doubt many will check this film out, but he does play a pretty interesting character here and does a pretty good job.
